I think there's nothing wrong with a 10x bb raise early in a donkey tourney with a monster KK - you are not folding it preflop and a "standard" raise will just get called by 5 or 6 players. You are still in good shape with 1200 chips if you have to fold post flop. You did nothing wrong post flop as no hand was anything approaching favorite to beat you or even outdraw you. It's just one of those things - a sick beat by a calling station. Part of the game.

"Raise more next time"
By 2tightNov 03, 09 06:49 AM

"Raise more next time"....or..."You didn't raise enough". How many times have you seen that post? Usually those statements are made by a player who just called a 10x the BB raise with J9 because it was suited and cracked your AA or KK.
The rules of raising aren't really applicable these days or maybe because it's a free site.
Players seem to call based soley on the size of their stack and a desire to play a hand. I'm not talking about a big stack vs a short stack but in an equal stack even money pot.
I was early in a tourney with KK with 1500 in chips. The blinds were 15/30 and there were 4 callers in front of me. I raised 10 x the blind to 300. I would have been happy to pick up the limpers and blinds. I got one caller, he too had 1500 in chips. The flop was K-9-3 rainbow. I moved all in to end the hand or double up. I got called and the hands were exposed.
My opponent held J9 suited in spades. Of course the board hitt runner runner spades and my set of K's died.
I sarcastically said "Nice preflop call for a raise"...he responded with "Raise more next time"...Really?...How much more should I raise to get you to fold a jack high hand? 20% of your stack isn't enough? Wait...it was soooted...LOL. (odds of flopping a flush are less than 1%)
The question of how much to raise seems to have no standard answer here. Players decide they're playing a hand and don't read raises by how many times the blind the raise is but how many chips they will have left if they call. They seem to be willing to risk a greater % of their stacks on inferior starting hands.
Hands that I would pot build with in most cases...here I tend to push all in and pray I don't get called.
Statements like..."Raise more next time"....or..."You didn't raise enough" seem to be cop outs for bad calls. How much should a player raise?

No raise allows good player to call with rags. But 3x or 4x BB at least betters your odds as Players that know will fold. No FREE flops I say. But I am a Donkey what do I know.
If I am first to enter I never raise more than 3xBB. If there are limpers in front, I will raise ~pot size. BUT, that still does NOT make players fold "sooted" cards or (close) connectors, or Ace rag, and lately, there are 2 many "any face card" callers. These players do not care about chip stack; they just over value their starting hands potential. And, it does amaze me how many players will call (even all-in) on the flop with any pair (u must be bluffing). GL and be careful at the tables.
Another sc star is born. It's always amazes me how many times a player commits suicide and lives to tell about it.
.
He put his $$ in as a less than 2% fav. There is nothing he can say to justify what he did.By saying" raise more next time" just shows how little the player knows about poker.
.
He won the hand and you lost as a 98% fav so of course he is a better player than you.

You must remember that at $20 a month to play all you want,a donkey call is not risky financially. If he/she loses they move to another game. If they win it just reinforces their wronheaded logic.Shake it off and remember except for pride in your play ,you didn't lose anything. Move on!
