WSOP - Wasn't meant to be

Hey fellow SC players. Just wanted to blog and let everyone know what happened at the WSOP. I am somewhat stunned and heartbroken as to what happened during the second level on the first day of play. After the conclusion of the first level ( 90 min ), I increased my starting chip count ( 30,000 ) to 32,400. I said to myself, just play your tight, aggressive game and you'll be OK. This hand came up which threw everything out the door. I was dealt 10 10 in the hijack pos. The blinds were 50/100. Everyone checked to me and I bet 300 chips, the button called and the SB called. The flop came 2 A 3 (all unsuited). To say the least, I proceeded with caution. SB checks, so I put out a feeler bet of 1200 and the button calls and SB folds. The turn was my miracle 10, which now gave me a 'set' on a VERY dry board. I was now trying to figure out - how do I trap this guy? I'm thinking that even if this guy was trying to trap me with A x or two pair or a set - I had him sucked in. The only two cards that could beat me was A A or 5 4 ( 5 4 was unlikely in my opinion ). I bet out another 1200 chips and the button called. Yes, you can say, make a larger bet, but even if I made a 5000 chip bet. he would have called - you'll see why later. I felt EXTEMELY comfortable that I had him trapped at this time. A2,A3,A K, A Q, A J, A 10 or any other A, are the cards I was expecting him to have at this point because he called my bet. The river card was a Q, at which time I went all in. NO - it didn't make any sense for him to be calling with K J. He thought for about 60 sec and called - turning over Q Q in the hole. My heart fell to the floor and so did my hopes for the WSOP. I may have been able to play this hand slightly different but Dan Harrington wrote in his book that with 'Set over Set', someone is going for all his chips and going broke - no two ways about it. Sorry folks but that's my story.

Qualifying for the WSOP is a major accomplishment in itself, you should be SO proud of yourself regardless of the results. Read Negreanu's bust hand if you need any cheering up. Cooler is as cooler does...

Not saying anything bad at all and congrats on your success.....but why go all-in after only betting 1200 on flop and turn. Doesnt seem like there was enough in the pot to risk your tournament on having the 5th best possible hand. AA..45 QQ KJ all have you beat. Sux to see you go out that way. Small ball poker seems to work best when your playing deep like that. Still have a huge amount of respect for you so dont take this out of content. I just like analyzing things...sometimes too much LOL

What happened to you is what I see happening a lot on this site...people slow playing and calling to see the next card. It is just unfortunate for you that the turn/river went 10/Q, otherwise you could have gotten away from the hand.

As others said, it's great to simply be there, no matter how your tournament ends up. And if this makes you feel any better...

3 people at the WSOP were all in. 2 of them held K-K, the other had A-A.

You want to talk about bad luck, that's it. LOL

Going all in was probably the wrong move in your situation. I'm sure you know that too at this moment and unfortunately at that one. However, I congratulate you on getting there. Always learning from this game and that lesson will help you next time. Take care.
