JJ is the 4th best starting hand. How did anyone come up with 7th best? The chances of being delt this hand are1.81%, and the odds-to-1 against being dealt this hand or better are 54.25-1. JJ is ranked in the top 5% of starting hands. All pocket pairs have the same # outs. But I agree pocket Js are hard to play.

JJ- What is the right way to play this DREADED HAND?
By BigChEeSeRSep 17, 08 10:55 PM

I have my own questions about this hand- Jack Jack.
What is the correct method to play this hand? Some tell me push all in, do not let anyone catch. Others tell me, just make a good raise depending on position.
It just seems to not work out, whichever method I have used.
So, again, HOW DO I PLAY THIS HAND?

decent chance to add to your stack. I'm not a big fan of pocket pairs but I've had decent luck with 10s.
JJ, QQ, KK - for some reason these hands all seem to be ace magnets. I've had the best luck playing them this way - get in as cheap as you can pre-flop as long as the raises aren't too strong. If you're in late position and there's a few limpers throw out a decent raise to thin the field. Otherwise, if you get a strong pre-flop raise and at least 1 call get out. Then, if the flop is all under cards, put in a strong raise. A lot of players will chase strong aces past 4th street so you have a
"JJ is the 7th best starting hand. " - please tell me this is a joke, or are you actually saying the AJ & A10 are better to have than JJ?
then I would smooth call, if they are loose aggressive, then I would reraise at least four times thei original raise.
I am not a big fan of getting all my money in pre flop with JJ unless I have 10BB or less. If you do get all in with JJ, what will you get called by, most likely AK, AQ, KQ and AA, KK and QQ for sure. Not the best spot to be in.
Better players prefer not to get all in pre flop with anything less than KK or AA (and maybe AK if you are feeling lucky!)
I once read that there are three ways to play Jacks and they are all wrong! The reason for this statement is that JJ is a very tricky hand to play. You are dominated 4-1 by QQ, KK and AA and you are a very slight coin flip favorite against KQ, AQ, AK.
Should you raise with JJ, if you are the first to raise then yes. Should you reraise with JJ, that depends. The decision to reraise with JJ is a read specific one. If the player who raised before you is super tight and has only shown down hands
JJ is the 7th best starting hand. Nice but not great. It only has 2 outs to improve, unless the flop shows str8 or flush possibilities. Look at your stack, look at the stacks of others in the hand. How big is the pot. How big is your gambling spirit. Then make you decision. How much can you afford to invest in a "pretty" hand.
I like to play JJ like this. If someone has a pp lower than JJ then I try to get them to go all in. If someone has a higher PP or even AK AQ(maybe KQ), I fold. Now when the flop comes use the same logic. AKQ hit board ask your opponent if they have one of those cards if they say yes fold. If they say no bet. If the board has lower cards than a J then bet 17 dollars and reap the benefits. The ISI will be watching.
