This man inspired me so I am shocked when I read alot of your profiles with him listed as a favorite poker pro and yet you don't even know how to spell his name.
I have a weird last name too and if you read it you wouldn't be able to pronounce it, but if you just heard it, you would def not be able to spell it.
I know that if I were a poker pro and admired by many that I would be humbled and honored but I would hate for my name to be mispelled so many times.

spelling is a bit of a peev for me. mine might not be perfect, but i wasn't even born in a country where english is the main language. i'm from russia and i came here in 1996. i learned the language quickly and only needed to be in ESL for one year in grade school. then i got put in spanish just like everyone else. anyways, illiterate people bother me somewhat because i came here and learned the language, and someone who was born here is asking ME how to spell a word, or to proof read something.

~~I have sooo noticed!!~~~ So many people spelling this man's name the" RIGHT" way here now.~ (well except Wunthirp, lol but the respect is there, it's really what matters:)~
~Thank you for respecting my desire to at least thank him for all that his table presence has given to me, by giving lessons on spelling his name.*** :) great fun!! :)

I respect you Swighey enough to ALWAYS spell your name correct, and you absolutely deserve respect, it's just that he has earned more so far.

Lol thanks, I guess I deserve less respect because I'm not famous and admired. Gee thanks!

thank you GWL666...a wise person is one who can admit a mistake, a solid person is one who corrects it. You are two in the same. :)
LOL swighey, ok lets try a different angle, just so you know why this means so much to me...you say that people don't get your name right, but are you famous and admired by as many as Daniel? he has earned a certain respect that people like me give him, his proper name represents who he is. I like who he is, so when I write of him, I'll write his name not garbo :)

Yeah I know where you are coming from and I agree to an extent - I've got a lot more respect for Daneil than i have for Phil. I watched some of the WSOPE main event FT live and even though Dan was short stacked and desperate for even a marginal hand he still managed to light up the room - even though in that spot he was no better a player than any poker regular. I still don't agree that it matters that much though - you should see some of the spellings of swihgey, swwigey, swggy etc.

It only takes a few seconds to proof read people!
Do any of you have an ounce of pity for people that could proof read, until the cows come home, and not see, or know, the error. Communication is the essential point of blogging. When, two,to, and too are wrong, or affect vs effect, or a minor spelling error is made, that has never affected my ability to understand what the person is communicating. Please don't discourage people from blogging by elitist comments.

It is called respect for someone you admire. I may have been very blunt in how I said it so for all of you that just need the info here it is. As for hellmouth I could care less if I knew how to spell his name, great player but table presence is less than desireable. I make spelling mistakes too but appreciate it if someone points it out for me so thank you swighey :)

Kreestal laydy, "a lot" is two words not one. Who cares? Why does a poker player need to be able to spell?

So what? Many people don't know how to spell last names correctly. e.g., I see Helmuth a lot for Hellmuth. And, Daniel’s last name is murder. Many people use “to” for “too” and “effected by” for “affected by” or “i.e.” for “e.g.”, and many players here don't know how to use spell check in word or how to type it in word, do spell check and then copy and past it in Spade Club. But, so what, many don't care. That should be the least of your worries.

I agree,it's disrespectful to misspell a great player's name.Reading some of the blogs and profiles here gives me a headache sometimes. It only takes a few seconds to proof read people!

(cont) With other people I think they are bad typists and typing too fast. With others, they are very bright, but have poor formal educational problems. Be thankful for your gifts, and try to understand that other people are gifted in other ways. Many of the top poker players are really probably almost idiot savants.

I'm very dyslexic. Thus I have spelling problems, misplaced word problems, heck, I rarely can remember my hole cards. Names are hopeless for me. That I even come close is a miracle. When introducing my daughter, her name will go blank in my mind. It's a family joke, her saying, "Mom, my name is Sue". I do a pretty good job of comensating, but I still make errors, and I will never be able to spell DNs name correctly.

These are usually the same people who think bluffing at a dry side pot and calling an all in bet with A2 are good ideas.
