LET ME EXPLAIN FURTHER....

By DAVIDDARE

My appreciation goes out to everyone that read and then took the time to comment on my recent blog, "TAKE THIS GAME AND.."! I would like to clarify a couple of points where I feel I was misunderstood. First off, my reference to the WSOP, was made solely in an effort to help illustrate that luck can prevail, at any given time over experience. Luck, in of itself, without the benefit of skill can, although rarely, win poker tournaments. Skill, in of itself, without the benefit of luck, cannot. This fact cannot be disputed. Every players survival during a tournament, at least once, will be determined by the random turn of a card. The more skillful you are and the more knowledgable you are and the more experienced you are allows you the wisdom to avoid those hands where the odds are against you and to take advantage of those times when they are in your favor. This is the kind of player that consistantly travels deep into a tournament and by doing so is always a threat to win. However, every hand is not a Royal nor can we only play those hands where we possess the "nuts". Sooner or later, in order to build our stacks and move on, we must gamble. Granted, our experience will hopefully choose those situations where we have the advantage but, unfortunately, advantage does not mean guaranteed so therefore losing is always a possible outcome. Now, I am only talking about tournament play where there are no second chances. All other forms of poker regardless if it be online, live, in your living room or outside in the garage expierience and knowledge always prevails. Why? Because even though you can lose your stack to an inferior player a simple rebuy will give you another crack at him. In the long run bad players or those without a clue always lose. To Mr smarston and Mr TYRANT277 and Mr Swighey your success here on this site speaks for itself so I have no doubt that outside of this genre your all even more successful. I just wish you would all stay outside of this genre when I'm in a tournament. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Both of your blogs on luck/skill are right on. Kada's play has highlighted these issues. Those who are critical of him need to examine the purpose and nuance of poker and his mind set on those critical decisions. Everyone will not wait for the best cards. There are times when gambling is a better choice than waiting fora better hand. For example, pkt 4's against Ivey. His choice is to wait and maybe blind out or gamble. Then his highly criticized all in 33move vs Shulman's JJ. Same choic

I enjoy your enthusiasm Dave, but "This fact cannot be disputed ", is wrong.
First it is not a fact, but an opinion, and
Second any fact can be disputed!
Keep blogging but leave room for the opposing view(s)...

Thx for the comment Harry. Opinions are based on what you believe something to be, wheras, facts are based on what that something truly is. Oh sure, you can dispute the "fact" that 2+2=4 but whats the point? Nothing can be said or any opposing opinion stated will ever change the truth in the statement 2+2=4.
In my blog I stated that no player who has ever won a tournament did so without, at least once, having his or her stack jeopardised
by the random turn of a card. And that is a "FACT"

David I have to disagree. It is not a fact. I have played a live tournament where I did not have to get "lucky". My stack just kept slowly growing throughout the tournament. I didn't have a hand where my money went in behind and I had to get "lucky". This is few and far between, most times you need to get lucky, or at least avoid being unlucky. I have seen players win a tournament that have not been lucky in it. I agree I have seen more get lucky to win, but stating it is a fact, is false

Mr. Smarston; During your road to victory you had to have played and won many hands, and I'm quite certain that you did not win all of those hands by either holding the nuts or with a royal. Everyone of those hands could have just as easily been lost had the turn of the cards been different. So, luck did play a part in your victory. In any game of chance it always does and dare I say it....................thats a fact.
