Ya totally. I need to do it more though. Its like finding a diamond in the rough. Plus you gotta wonder how much their skill or style has changed.

Keeping notes on players
By HokembokemJul 06, 09 02:03 AM

Do you guys do it? I keep notes on players here that I study and I really think it helps. Next time your in a tourney and you see some random player with notes, read what you wrote about them in the past and use it to your advantage.

I know i dont keep notes on every little thing. Just big things that I notice happening on a regular basis. And Mirek that would work if there wasnt so many different players and also people change avatars ect.
Not ,much more is needed than LAG, TAG, or solid You could ask 12 different players who have notes on me & I am willing to say very few would look much alike.... I might limp with a big hand, or push with a bad hand and then next time just the opposite. Changing gears & knowing that all things are factors for how someone plays. What is at risk,, how deep in the event., is the table tight or loose. all these things & more will cause me to act differently and cause you to have inaccurate info
i have very good memo
yeah Dr is right depends what table and players r at table............good player is changing gears ,....
amen
i take notes and constantly updating them like dcr says some people change there gears alot.. but i have a formula i will not reveil i got from a poker pro it is pretty accurate against the begginning players but the good players u must update alot...i like to take a piece of paper and make a table of all the players at my table and keep track of how many hands they are playing a orbit....if the guy is playing almost every hand i mark him super aggresive .....cont
if he plays 2 to 3 hands a orbit he is average if he plays 0 to 1 hands he is a conservative player...thats just my notes i keep on preflop play now notes on flop is different ...but the pre flop i just said will help any begginning poker player out
Notes are good but you could play a perfect hand and get totally outdrawn...I think it is probably better in live games personally to make mental notes of how people play, to me there is too much chance in online poker.
my notes are putting my opponent on a range, course range starts wide and over time start to narrow along with betting tendencies "ie' lite 3 bets, calln 3 bets, value bets etc,
this type of info helps me put them on a hand, which I believe is the most usefull notes to keep also by developing your skill to accurately put opponent on a hand or narrow it to a few, is an obvious advantage that any poker player would kill for. gl all
So as not to give away anything about how I play, I'm giving a multiple choice answer.
1. I just create a blog about everyone that beats me in a hand and I call them a donkey.
2. I'm too busy calculating my eff bb's left so I can go into shovebot mode.
3. Of course I do. If you want to know what yours says Paypal me $5.
4. I keep notes on everyone; very meticulous notes about each and every noteworthy hand they are in; how they played pref, postf, turn & river.
5. None above.
6. All above.
I take notes, bills, coins, chips, cheques, visa, mastercard, international money transfers, credit cards and big buckets of beer.
The flaw of notes is that they aren't iron clad. If i'm running lucky I'll loosen up. If i'm running bad I'll tighten up. Sometimes I go on tilt from the miracle after miracle so I play angry and sometimes I could care less. Point is notes are good but every tournament is played differently. A big stack may fold until AA or KK where as a short stack may go all in on a draw rather than fold away more chips. It's a lot of information that notes can't account for.
i used to, but there got to be so many new players, id be taking notes all night instead of playing
My notes just aren't very effective - Sh**. really sh**. totally fecking **it, so I don't bother anymore. I only use, "bluffed a dry side pot with player allin." - which Doc mentioned months ago
take all the notes on me that youre little heart desires boys and girls cause i switch it up so much you'll never be for sure what i have in fact just call me down i dare you too. fact #1 play poker 8 hrs a day 5 diff sites look at a million hands go play live and dominate the tables throw the books etc away, youre just making the pro's richer do you really think they are telling you how to beat them notttttta....lol
I never take notes the first time I play with someone. If I've had some experiences over time with someone that share a common denominator, then I might. But even if I do, I read them with a grain of salt. The only time I do use notes for someone right away is if they get really nasty & abusive at a table. But just in terms of playing the game, the best change up their game, and I've run into trouble making assumptions. I guess it's whatever works best for ya. Good luck, kiddo!

Depends on whether I'm on my laptop or not. It's too laggy. I miss acting on a hand sometimes. But it's a good idea to keep notes. I agree
