That was so gay?
By MONMISSFeb 01, 09 07:18 PM

For those of you that know me, you know that respect and good sportsmanship is important to me. I don't start fights, I don't name call, and if I get beat but 9 2 I move on.
I have seen players use the word gay to mean something bad. Perhaps they took a bad beat, perhaps they didn't like the way someone played. The word gay has nothing to do with poker.
It is offensive when used in this mannor. . We don't use racial or religous slurs to describe a poker play. I would like people to think before they speak and realize this is rude, thoughtless, and inappropriate. This conduct will not stop unless you speak up at the tables and say this is wrong.
gg and gl all!

Words are just words. Society and groups of people, e.g. religious right, determine what they do and don't like.

Remember the children’s rhyme, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.”

I personally think the word "God" is the most offensive word in the world, much more offensive than any swear word or slang term for an ethic group. More people have been murdered in the name of God than any other word.
I admire your point, I agree. However, the etymology of words and meanings, well one could spend hours with the word gay.
I totally agree! Sometimes people don't realize what they are saying, like "Indian Giver" or "He jewed me down in price". People should be made aware. Thanks for the post.
