WSOP spoiler alert!!!
By SCKennyOct 28, 09 03:12 PM

In case you haven’t watched last nights WSOP coverage and are planning to STOP reading now.
Anybody can make a mistake, even Phil Ivey. During last night coverage of the WSOP they featured a hand where Phil had pocket 8’s hearts and spades. With the blinds 60k/120k, he raises to 320k. His opponent, Jordan Smith re-raises to 1m and Phil calls. The flop is Qh 10s 5s, both check. The turn is Qs and both check again. The river is the As and both check again. Smith shows Ad 9c for two pair A’s and Q’s and Phil mucks his hand face down. Phil missed that he had the 8s for a flush and gave away a pot worth over 2 million chips! I wonder how Phil felt last night and how many phone calls he got?
Just goes to show that after 8 days of poker anyone can make a mistake.
Moral? It doesn’t cost anything to look at your hand one last time before mucking.
Good luck at the tables,
SCKenny

ive done it with A8 in big blind got a few callers flop comes low with a 8 i bet 10 2 callers turn comes a A and i am like damit someone hit a A so i checked and dude bet 30 i folded and just as soon as i did i was like damit i had A8 lol and this was at a poker room for cash was very upset with myself lol
That was soooooo sick!!! It was crazy to know that Ivey was finiding out that he mucked the winner at the same time we all did...He must have freaked!!! This hand will be talked about for as long as Phil plays the WSOP....
That is as bad as when I folded JJ because I had folded so many hands pryer...lol
It is a tedious game.. i love it. Still however the worldseries break of weeks before the final table i think is a joke. im sure there are millions of good reasons why to do it that way, but it's not poker=(
The really sad thing is some of our members will blame SpadeClub for this like they do everything else. You know what I mean.
Ivey also made two elementary mistakes in the lowball event that he won at the WSOP and got lucky. There is hope for all of us!
its kind of like online poker ya see you fold the best hand and you make the final table.
That was a real bummer! I could not believe Phil mucked those cards. It was unreal. When the river came, I yelled "Ivey wins!" Boy was I wrong.
PS...and yea, Shulman does need a haircut. UNLESS, he growing it out for when he buys a motorcycle with his WSOP winnings. Then it looks okay for now. I know I would be growing hair for something like that if I had any to grow.
It's easy to critisize the guy. I'm guessing most of us play mostly online and therefore are used to having our hole cards face up. He had a backdoor flush draw and probably wasn't even thinking about the flush. When he hit 2 pair he was busy trying to work out what the other guy was on and missed the draw. Plus he was tired from playing the main event for several days, expending mental energy winning two bracelets, and no doubt cash games all night long. He benefits the most from 4 month break.
