Deception is a Poker Players Best Friend
By Writer94566Aug 22, 08 02:16 AM

Greetings, my friends:
Have you ever looked down to find two Aces in the hole – what a beautiful sight to see! So you go all in and nobody calls you! All you won was the 50/100 blinds. Rats!
Well it is your own doing that has led you to curse your bad luck, my friends. Yes, you were playing like a rookie! Virtually, you were telling everyone that you had Aces or Ace – King, so they laid their Q-9 or 6-7 down and waited foe their next cards; what you need boys and girls is a little bit of deception! That’s right, I said deception.
By deception, I mean trickery; the stuff that causes confusion and makes it hard for your opponents to accurately put you on a poker hand. When you have them guessing wrong, they will lay down the winning hand or pay you off when you hold the winning cards! Deception makes you a winner at the poker table.
Occasional raise from early position with 7-8 because everyone knows that you need a pair of A-K to bet in early position – you will confuse the players; the ego-driven ones will bark at you by typing some crap remarks but no one listens to them in the real world either!
Just call from the big blind with your 7-7 instead of raising the pot. If low cards come out you may be golden! If a seven hits – Jackpot, baby!
Bluff from the “cutoff” seat (one before the button) because in today’s poker NO ONE believes the button raises!
Limp in with Ace – King. Hey, if you miss, no big deal – you can it down for minimal loss; but when you hit it, hardly anyone will believe that you have a big hand because you just limped in!
DECEPTION PAYS DIVIDENDS IN POKER!
Here is some 7-7 math :
Odds of flopping full house is approximately 102 - 1
Odds of flopping three of a kind is approximately 8 – 1
Odds of flopping two pair is approximately 5 – 1 (beware that someone else may have trips now)
Odds of no over cards on the flop is approximately 12 – 1 (usually there will be an over card – that’s why most people will raise – to eliminate some of the players and thus improve your chance of winning the hand.
By odds, I mean that if it says 4 -1, I mean that one time out of five chances that you will win, so four against and one for you. Thus, it is the same as 20% because that is the percentage reflected by the odds.
Lastly, I must advise you the following warning: “Everything in poker is situational.”
Hopefully, I have been of some help to you today.
