Lesson # 2 Omaha Hi
O.k. so you decided that you want to believe you can be a better player!
I knew you would return and I am happy for you, lets get started!
.......................................................................................................................
OMAHA IS A NUT DRAWING GAME. Remember this and you will be well on your way.
......................................................................................................................
Omaha is a game in which 4 cards are dealt to each player,
you must remember that in Omaha you must use exactly two cards from your hand and three from the 5 comminty cards that become the flop, turn, river...
....................................................................................................................
Let me repeat that, YOU MUST USE 2 CARDS FROM YOUR HAND! TO COMPLETE ANY FIVE CARD HAND.
...................................................................................................................
IT IS CRUCIAL THAT YOU LEARN BASIC STARTING HANDS AND WHERE YOU STAND IN THE HAND AFTER THE FLOP!
.......................................................................................................................
Many players have a sharp eye and can know what the best possible “nut hand” can be on the flop, come the turn and then the river but many players can not see this so quickly.
“After you study “ the chosen starting hands section below, I would suggest you to either use one or both the options below .
Take the time to practice seeing the flops and knowing what could become the nut hand on the flop, the turn and the river.
...................................................................................................................................................................
Please take the time to practice either watching Omaha- Hi games or the second option is to get a deck of cards ready. What you are watching in the actual Omaha HI-games will be will “the flops” to start, when you see a flop ask your self with any two cards from any players hand, what could be the nuts at this time?
Example flop is: Kd -Qs-8c / ask your self what is the nut hand right now?
you should come up with the answer three k’s.
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’
Now lets take our thoughts a little further, what could be the nut hand if someone hits on the turn card?
The very best hand another could be holding at this moment would be kkj10 right? So the next nut hand would be certainly another k , then the nut hand will be 4 kkkk’s but if the k doesn't come.
...............................................................................................................................................................
The next best possible nut hand would be if a ace hits the turn, giving someone the “nut” straight, should they hold the j 10, also if a nine hits on the turn! will make the person a straight with the j 10 in there hand, Now if the board pairs on the turn, the nut possible hand would be kings full,? Many would think at first glance BUT wait, what if someone holds the same pair in there hand, say the 8 pairs on the turn, couldn’t it be possible someone had a little pair of 88’s pre flop? It certainly can be possible ! Even if another pulls of that miracle hand, still the river card needs to come, what if that king comes on the river? Oh, boy, what a world of crap the guy with 4 8’s is in!
.................................................................................................................................................................
Do quads against quads happen often, not really but they do happen way more than a texas hold em game..( I will get into Omaha odds in a later blog) the point of this is to get you to understand, that as each card comes to life, so can a “new nut hand” Knowing how to read these flops are essential to being a winning player.
................................................................................................................................................................
So. Your Home work is to watch Omaha games, see those flops, practice seeing the possible nut hands, then see the turn, again what is the possible nut hand? The river, what is the best possible hand now?.
When you are just hanging out, get a deck of cards, flop yourself some flops, turns and rivers till your eyes turn blue. Practice! knowing the possible nut hands during Omaha games is giving you a strong advantage over many players.
...................................................................................................................................................................
Now that you are learning to understand the possible “Nut Hands” Lets take a look at starting hands for Omaha Hi, These are starting hands! Note: 379Q and many other hands are not on the list, The hands not on the list in my opinion should not be played by “beginners“. really shouldn’t be played by anyone but over time you learn to play the players and not the cards and certain situations one may play not so great hands. : ) the more one can learn to understand the flop, turn, river...the more one can open there range of hands but please if you are learning, use the list as a basic guide!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many “LISTS” people claim to be great starting hands, For this blog and giving the setting of a Spade Club environment, (low risk) I chose this list for beginners and even for the more advanced players. : ) I will list more “lists “ later on in my blogs.
I believe One can safely play these hands pre flop once they understand the nut concept of Omaha. If you don’t hit the flop you can always fold.
Depending on your position at the table, not all these hands should be raised pre flop.
We will get into position and betting strategies soon. For now just study these hands!
NOTE: Many of these top hands can be played in a Spade club like setting without being double suited but for best possible draws, it stands as it does : )

.......................................................................................................................
Practice with the suggestions I gave you on the knowing what the possible nut hands will be and are and learning how to get those answers quickly during a game.

Next blog will be on position and betting strategies, more on playing running connecting hands and more advanced things....
