Did I make a stupid raise?

By chickenraize

Very first hand of the Pt Bldr tour, my hole card is KJ suited and also big blind. Everyone call the blind of 20, I raised to 120, PKRCHIC went all in with AJ, and MIREK called the raise with AQ, I also call. MIREK end up winning the hand.
PKRCHIC made a comment that I made a stupid raise???
Again, everyone is entitle to have their own opion but I feel that we are playing POKER and I believe that this game POKER is consists of, betting, calling, raising, folding, bluffing and gambling. If we made our choices and do one of the above, win or lose, its part of the game and that is what made poker a great game. So win or lose, I will always give the other player the respect they deserved.(except player with bad manner)
Happy New Year to all at SpadeClub!!!

hey chickenraize as far as I'm concerned I agree with you I dont see anything you did wrong and as you say thats whats poker is about like you say everyone has their way of playing and should be respected no matter what I see to much name calling when players lose a pot not matter what the other person has its poker get over it and move on to the next challange.

Happy New Year to all and play nice in the new year

He was pissed he lost. Period. Your raise had nothing to do with him winning or losing the hand. It was his choice to go all-in. It was your choice to call TWO all-ins in front of you which *I* would consider to be a bad one (like mirek said). You gotta be thicker skinned to play on-line. People will "bravely" yell and scream at you all day when they lose. Laugh it off.

Yeah, good raise bad call. I've played against PkerChic a few times and Even if you make good plays against her, she will find a way to criticize. That's what I've observed.

I disagree, it was a bad raise. By just raising 120 you created an invitation bet. You should have went all in right away. The results might have been a little different or the results would be the same.

Hey Chick, I agree with Mirek about the raise and the call. Even if a person has AA they really only want to compete with one other player, so having less than AA and being the third to call is not what I would do but who am I, its only my 2 cents my friend, gl and see you on the felt. Happy new year, Patrick aka Tex

I see a trend to the comments and tend to agree that the call was bad even though the raise may not have been.
Your hand is about 20% versus 2 Sklansky group 1 and 2 hands. Therefore you were not getting proper odds to call.
Things that people tend to forget is that raises help you define the range of hands your opponents may have.

In my eyes, the AJ all in was bad and the call with AQ was just as bad. First hand and all this action, people are just playing push and pray.

I doubt you wo

I doubt you would see this type of action if the tourney cost at least $100. Live or online.

it was good raise and good cal you know worst hand wins 80% that was just one of the 20%

The raise wasn't as bad as going All-in, pre-flop, without a pair.
Plus, you CALLED all-in and didn't push.
Finally, you were out of position. Read a book sometime, if you reduce fundamental mistakes, you'll be a better player and enjoy winning.
