"Donk" vs. Bluff

By drtink33

I think we all bluff at some point in our games, just as most of us, at some point, make a "donk" call. But what's the real difference? My take on a "donk" is someone who basically has nothing to call, but calls the bet anyway. Loose/ aggressive play, calls any two cards just to see the flop, etc. We all know the type.
It seems that some think "donk" play is when you try to bluff a hand, though. I feel that bluffing is just part of the game. Now, if you bluff and someone calls, and you try to go over the top, well sure, that's a "donk" move. Otherwise, to me, a bluff and "donk" play are completely different. What's your take?

Donks play against EXTREME odds and believe they will catch.
Bluffing is knowing you are probably behind, but seizing a position or weakness type opportunity. Bluffing is calculated.

A bluffer knows what he's doing, a donk does not.

UR CORRECT. I guess this is all too confusing for some to understand.....when you CALL with any 2 cards you are NOT BLUFFING....you are the DONK. A BLUFF can only be made when YOU CONTROL THE ACTION, your bluffing no one by calling the action. A busted bluff is not a donk but if you're bluffing every hand ur no longer a bluffing ura DONK. When u do play that way get ready 4 a bad beat because no one will believe your raises.

My take on a donk is a player in pot playing poor cards out of position. Then calls with poor pot odds and hits a 2 outter to win.

A good player knows about how often his bluff will get called, and bets an appropriate portion of the pot to maximize value. Say, if I know that you will fold more than half the time, I can bet half the pot with air and know im still getting good odds. Following these rules, you must be 100% sure that your opponent will fold for bluffing all your chips to be the right math play. Donkeys want you to call because they actually they belive thay they will make the best hand.Soo fucking retaaaaarded!

Donks don't know how to play real poker. They are idiots, play any two cards and think they can catch the nuts. Bluffing is a statigy move in poker and a good player knows the right time to do it. Going over the top is also a stratigy that top pros do it all the time if they think they can get the other guy to fold.. Just watch them fire two or three bullets at the pot when they sense weekness. But they will all tell you not to bluff an idiot or donkey cause you will most likely lose.
