THE BULLY BET

Today I was slightly taken aback by the verbal abuse I got at a table for calling the flop and turn. I was holding pocket kings. The board flopped A-7-4. The big stack bet 1200 and I called. The turn was a blank. He bet 1200 again and I called. The river was a K. I had the winning set. One guy calls me a dimwit! Then they go on to say that is so typical of SC. The highest SPOY ranking of the two was around 4500. The other guy was a newbie with nothing to his w/l or SPOY points. I guess they never have been manipulated by a big, or larger stack than them. Either that, or Phil Hellmuth is their idol. We don't always have the best of it, we have to take chances at times. I thought it was the decision to be made at the time. It turned out to be correct. They don't always turn out that way. After all, I was making a play with a premium pair, not a couple of rags. Some people chirp way too much here without much of a profile to back up the chirping. I wouldn't have made the play against one of the top 25 players, but I liked my chances on that particular table. As it turned out, that play earned me a spot in the $2K World Series Weekly. There are times when you have to stick your neck out--that was one that turned out for the better.

Now come on. Less than 4 blinds??? Most would have just pushed with a suited ace, especially with the blinds just 2 hands away and short stacked. This guy acted like I had just called off 30k with A6 suited...then of course, I would be every name he called me. What is hillarious is he then proceeded to go all in with A3 off then K 10 suited and was gone 4 hands later. There are some flat donkey calls, then there are plays. I never get upset being out played...gettin donked is another story.

I got an ear full last night myself in the wsop qually. I was 2 hands in front of the blinds with just over 7k and A6 suited hearts. The blinds were 600/1200 with 75 ante...or 30% of my stack for another trip around the table. Not wanting to get so short that anyone would call with anything I made a raise to 3600, really just wanted to pick up the blinds. Everyone folded but the BB went all in with 30k & QQ. Wiith less than 2 blinds left I called. I hit and he called me every name in the book.

Like that blog,

It's true stick your neck out and play the game, you have to do that once in a while and KK seems to me like a good hand to play, I meen there where no big raises as I see it, 1200 in a continius bet throug the hand. I say a good time to take the chanche well done. You might even not have played it if he/she had pushed on the flop, so think the one that had the A that late in the tournament made no effort to push you of the hand. Congrats with your qualify.

How often have you seen someone bet on second pair when an A is in the flop, or bet on air feeling like they are holding nice hole cards? Especially with players with little experience. I have a negatiave comment on my profile by a guy who knows ten times more about poker than I do. However he has 20 K in hands and no final tables, lol. The chirpers don't know how to play their hands but they sure know how to play yours, lol. Keep the flap jacks and coffee coming my friend, Tex

lol..rule #1: Dont EXPECT the short stack to fold...period
rule #2: Dont PUSH against the big stack unless you got the goods. Couple of good rules huh?

U PHAIL to give stack sizes so evaluating your play is impossible.
Given that, the "same" bet on the turn as on the flop is typically indicative of a weaker hand, and check calling w KK on an ace board is fairly standard.
