To new Spade Club members: Don't give up!
By joerevs300Jul 12, 09 03:24 PM

One thing I tend to see both in tournaments and especially in Sit N Go's (as it relates mainly to tokens) is players giving up.
Namely:
- People who choose to sit out, thinking they have no chance to get back into it
- People who go all in on inferior hands (7-3 for example)
- People who wait until the blinds put them all in
At some point, you have to make a stand. But whatever you do, you have to keep fighting. If you see a K or A and are short stacked, you just have to take a chance with those hands (and it runs the spectrum from K-2 to A-A). If you have a pair that's pretty obvious too. But don't just quit.
In my example, I was in a Red Token SNG this afternoon and I was last out of 7 in chips with only 970. Eventually I was down to 770 but I started winning the blinds and 1 all in. I kept fighting until it was down 3 handed...they had 5000 and I only had 2000. Eventually, with a LOT of patience, I got the one guy all in and I had the best hand. So I came from way down to win a RT.
If you're new, just keep battling. It will aid you tremendously in tournament play and in all areas of your game. And most of all...know there are SNG's and tournaments where no matter how perfect you play, you aren't going to get the cards to cash or get a token; that is just poker. The key is to maximize the value of the good hands you do get to overcome those down times.
Good luck to all of you in the SC community and I'll see you at the tables. :)
