Rude people
By lQQkinJul 01, 09 10:05 AM

I attempted to engage in a conversation with some players here concerning the best way to handle rude players at spade club. (not eveyrone finds the same things offensive, peoples level of tolerance are different so this could range from rude to foul depending on your interpertation)
.
.
My opinion which got lost in this original debate is this:
.
There are people from all walks of life playing poker together in one place, this is not a brick and morter casino, this is the internet, people are able to hide behind their screens and say whatever they choose to say without the consequences of those words. There are no security guards to haul their asses out. There are foul and rude people at every single poker site I have ever played online.
.
.
Currently these internet sites attemtpt to suspend or ban a players chat when they receive complaints that they feel are truely offensive. This as we all know accomplishes nothing. The players chat will come back, or they will simply get a new name and chat under that name. And that is just one player.........Spade club has thousands, larger sites have hundreds of thousands.
.
.
The ideal solution to this problem is that this and other sites allowed you to turn off a individual players chat. I suspect that if this were a easy and inexpensive things for them to do they would have already done it.
.
.
So now we have to talk about personal responsibility.
You make a conscience decision to play poker online, you have been subjected to language, comments and conversations that have offended and insulted you. So what are you going to do about it?
.
.
**You can choose to turn off your chat. However this prevents you from listening to valuable conversations at the tables that could help or hinder your game. It alsp prevents you from engageing in conversation. You will notice that at the Final Table of large tournaments a player usually chooses to turn off their chat completely. It allows you to concentrate on what you are there to do and that is play poker without the interruption of idiots.
.
.
**You can LOWER YOURSELF TO THEIR LEVEL and try to reason, debate or even argue with him. You can even try to humiliate and shame him and give even more weight to his words and re-post them in your own blogs so that EVEN MORE PEOPLE get to see what he said. You have the same freedoms he has, if he can say it, you can say it. If he can write it in a blog, then you can too. But a warning to you.... Eventually you become him by lowering yourself to his level. ........"When you're arguing with a fool, make sure he isn't doing the same thing".
.
.
**You can ignore it. This is by far the easiest solution, it causes no friction and eventually by not engageing in ANY conversation with the jerk he will get bored and go away. You have not validated him or debated with him or even acknowledged his existence in your world therefore not allowing him to rent any space in your head.
.
.
My choice to handle foul (not just rude but out of line) people at the tables are to ignore it. I typically will even voice my opinion so that they know I find it inappropriate and then leave it at that. But thats just me. I feel it serves no purpose to give any weight to their words as they are obvious idiots and dont deserve any of my time.
.
.
Since this is my blog and I am responsible for the content that is posted in my blog I will not be allowing any comments to be published. If you would like to leave me a opinion it will be read, but most likely not responded to. It serves no purpose to try to debate this any longer.

I refuse to allow my profile (PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY) to be a venue for drama. Those who like to hear the sound of their own voices have the same amount of space available to them on their profiles as I have available to me and may babble as much as they choose over there. I will not allow them to rent any space in my head or spread their filth on my name.
