The Two Hardest Hands to Play in Ohama
By loosejohnnyMay 27, 09 07:46 PM

My two bits, The Two Hardest Hands to Play in Omaha is the 'rolled trips' naked...meaning you have no other draws. and the Rolled Nut straight on the flop, and you have no other draws. They are similar but a big difference. The Flopped Straight is a tougher hand to play because usually you have no redraws to the flush 'I am a loose player' so that happens alot to me. However the reason is a tough hand to play is because you are really hoping that the Rolled 'trips' out there doesn't hit his card for the quads or full house when the board does pair. You cant improve...and the only real thing you can do is Jamm the Pot, be happy you won, and be happy nobody is trying to catch that dreaded flush or boat to beat you. In fact Jamming it is the only thing you can do (my two bits, I am not checking the hand), and you need to in order to make the other draws pay for each card dearly, and in Ohama you make them pay (dearly for the draws). Do not check period. I just Jamm and Pray to the Poker Gods that the chasers miss and I take down a pot small or monster. So the 2nd hand that is hard to play is the Rolled Trips, Rolled Trips in Ohama is really a drawing hand to the Boat, because generally people are trying to draw to straights and flushes to beat you. (You need to pair the board, or if you get lucky Quad Up...then its all over at that point anyway). So you have two choices, 1st is the Jamm and hope you take it down, or Jamm and pray that you really do hit the full house. Or Jam and Pray that they miss the flush and straight, You see while you are ahead in the hand by odds, there are so many other players that are trying to hit the straight and flush. So both hands are really big pot builders, and I just hope that I do win that big pot.

Congrats on the win johhny. There were a lot of strong players near the end in that toruney so a good job done. The NLHE players are a real pain in PLO - when I hit a straight on an early table I usually either call to be beaten by runner runner flush or lay it down to a big shove only to see some donk play trips or 2 pair - not as a bluff or semi -bluff but because he actually thinks it's good. Good win, well deserved!
Yeah its hard to flop a straight, even if its the nut straight; you just jamm it and pray people fold, or make the trips pay for the boat
hi/lo game you are even in worse shape because there 2-3 in the hand playin lo and can also out drw your hand. but vs no flush drw i normally fell my str8 will hold up in plo and as the tourney gets down to the players that understand the game better the hand will hold up more often.
is Ohama a variation of Omaha designed by our current President Obama? Just curious...
Nice job on the win! Omaha games are geared for people who are good hand readers. Knowing the best possible outcome of a flop is very important. There are very few times when free cards should be given. I have had people get mad when I make a pot-limit raise, but I believe it is the thing to do if the situation warrants. I agree with the jam it play. Make people pay to draw to their hand. You have to protect yours! Omaha players know it, hold'em players always talk about suck-outs.
