A COLLISION BETWEEN FRIENDS...PUSSSH CHOSE TO SHOVE !!!

By rouletteboy
Nov 02, 09 08:09 PM

Writing this blog to get help on understanding what went wrong !!
First alittle background on me playing against friends. This is what I had writtten in Tyrant777 's blog "rules of engagement "written way before this colision.
""u better get me cause I'm gunning for u....if u don't fire at me I'll lose respect for ya man or just take all ur chips".
GL
RB
Ok just a little more info...I was called an idiot countless times for betting into a dry pot when I 1st came to this site, so I swore to myself I would never bet a dry pot unless I had the nuts or if I was bet into.
Ok Ok on to the COLLISION both these happened !!

It went down something like this...friend correct me if I'm wrong.
-Blinds @ 150/300
-Me and friend equal stacks approx 8k
-positon i don't exactly remember
-I have Ah Q h...with 2 limpers I bet 3x blind(and i think uh oh friendly fire ) but will play my normal game regardless of friend, its poker after all.
-player to left of me raises another 550 and all in
-friend calls
-I think saweet, dry pot check down time no collision
-flop comes As Qd 3c
-having watched my friend play alot, i know friend has no small pkts maybe kk kj, kq.kj jj
-got um all covered no prob
-we both check yeees
-turn comes 10s
-we both check yeees we are on the same page don't kill each other saweet
-river comes 9
-friend shoves all in
-Nooooooo... I hit the roof....friend must have caught the strt or just decided to steal (when actually friend caught a great card and must have thought I was real weak having not bet on previous streets)
-I proceed on tilt mode and call off all my chips...one of us is goin out.
-And for the 1st time since I've been at spade club I got called an idiot for not betting into a dry pot on previous streets, thats right I was called an idiot by myself, as my friend turns over pkt 9's for a set, takes the pot and sends me to the rail.
-My friend being the quality player she is, surely would have folded pkts to any raise on previous streets. Turns out she was playing poker and I was playing friendly.
-Friend goes on to finish 5th in tourney(congrats friend)
-The bruises are almost healed and my game has now changed...
From this day forward in that situation I will bet into a dry pot...
Please advise me on how u would play this hand against a friend.
TX and gl all friends who collide !!

Hi RB... Very interesting question is raised by your blog... Here's my take... When playing with "friends" live or online I insist on everyone playing their "A" game... Many players enjoy beating their friends at poker more than they do strangers!! If less than 100% is given by anyone the winners victory is tainted... Give your best at all times and insist everyone else does the same!!!

Best of luck!!

I would have bet the top 2 pair because its a pretty strong hand on that flop. If the all-in player has you beat he probably needs a set to win. I would have bet. Betting a dry pot is usually frowned upon if you bet with nothing and player B folds and all-in player wins pot.

To answer deadaswoods question when is it dry?...when player to my left raises pot an additonal 500 bucs and causes him to be all in and we both call it becomes dry.
Definition of a dry pot
I quote " A side pot with no money created when a player goes all in and is called by more than one opponent, but not raised. If subsequent betting occurs, the money will go to the dry pot...My question is focused around my actions...should I have bet 3rd and 4th street to attempt to get her to fold?

All of us have played together and i dont believe in betting a drypot unless you have a really good hand with the 2 pair i maybe would have put out a bet just to show you have a hand..... i have a new blog up about donkey plays.. check it out!

I don't like commenting on poker hands because quite frankly I'm no good at the game. Common sense, however, tells me this. Once the all-inner is committed his fate against your hand and anyone else in the pot is sealed. Your fate against his hand is sealed but not so against the other players. You always have a better shot at winning against one player. I would of bet that two big pair, showing my strength, hoping to get the other players out. I think the "check it down theory" is nonsense.

Now, had I been in 'usual unfriendly' mode and you had been in 'unusual unfriendly' mode and bet the flop into a dry pot, etc., would I have folded p9's? Maybe, maybe not. My very first live HE poker hand (at the Bellagio) was p9's and I hit quads. Since then, I'm pretty partial to em and pretty Pussshy with em ;oP

(cont) Apparently you didn't give 2 hoots either if I hit the dang str8. That pot may have looked dry to you but my blood was boiling over it. Ahhh well... A little friendly fire tis all. We were jest buttin heads while dancing a ♪♫full tilt boogie♪♫ my friend. My head has got another crack in it now too tyvm. I've signed us up for dancing lessons, my treat ;o)))

Actually it was more Butthead to Butthead I think. ANALYZE my perspective: 3 of us in a hand after preflop raises etc. Because I was on tilt from previous hand in another tourney, the only thing I saw after my call to the raises was~~~ check, check ~~~ B9 BINGO~~~ ALL-IN!
I absolutely did not give 2 hoots if someone hit that str8. Normally, I would have checked it down with having jest the set, friend or no friend. I did think you hit the str8 when you called me. FOR SURE.
