Player of the Year
By rynospudJul 30, 08 11:23 AM

And now for something completely different................. A mess of stuff spewing from a madman's mind
Ok for those of you who don't know me or don't pay attention, I run a Poker League in North East PA. People play poker in bars and taverns for points and compete 3 times a year for $2500 in prizes. We have 2 different player of the year awards, 1) Top points: the person who has acrued the most points over the entire fiscal year. Players earn pts for playing, for making final tables, for bounties, for referring players and for supporting the bars, after all its free for the players but somebodies gotta pay me! 2) Winner of the Tournament of Champions: the top 16 at each regional tournament, 3NJ 3PA plus the top 25 in points (who are not already qualified from the regionals) in both NJ and PA, qualify for the TOC. 144 of "the best" players we have will square of in a no holds barred, battle royal cage match of death, WINNER TAKE ALL! winner gets entry into the 2008 WPT MAIN EVENT to be held at Foxwoods in Nov.
Now you may be saying ok great, good for you, what does that have to do with this topic.........welll......... here it is. EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS SPADECLUB evolves, if you set up the player of the year similar to this where you have qualifiers from different points of the year into another tournament, a year end big showdown brewhaha shindig, well now you have a better accounting of who the capo di tuti capo is.
If you think about it this way (now I know Im not the best on here, I get pissy and distracted too much)(LOOK A SQUIRREL) but I don't play in the big games as often as most, I have a business (see above) that keeps me out most nights (during the $500's) and the weekends, every other I have my kids. Bang, my scores are handicapped because I can't get to the bigg point games. But I've been here since mid January. I've played with and beaten, and been beaten by the best players and the worst players that have march the hallowed halls of spadeclub. So what I'm trying to say is my suggestion is to break it down into smaller samples rather than just 1 big sample. And by doing this going retro isnt all that bad.

COMMENTS
retro does not make any sense to me whatsover. The pre season, is just that..pre season. When you start something new, it is that point in time, when results should count. Can you imagine a casino starting a competition and rewarding there old timers points as a retro bonus-there are other ways to do that...This Wizard does not like the retro option.
As an "old" player, I have to agree with comments posted elsewhere that the play was better then although thefield was smaller. It is much easier now to chip up on weaker players than it was then. And as someone who spent a lot of time playing points and chip tourneys, I like the idea of them being included in the scoring.
There have been complaints about loyal players-those there from the start, being treated unfairly. This helps to make up for that.
Think about it. Most are going against players who had the advantage of the old point system and where playing a much less player field to get a huge advantage to start with.

Man do i get so sick and tired of hearing players bitch about this stupid spoy shit. Fact of the matter is wether or not its retro with past results. I still get just as many finals now as i did back then If not more now that the retqard players are here now. When this site first started alot of these players that bitch about rankings and other shit would of never been able to compeat with such players as MasterDan, Kentucky, Vtroung, RiverRat33, Jackie, ect... the play was better in turn harder
