SpadeClub Player of the Year Scoring Criteria
All tournaments that award cash and/or prizes count toward SPOY rankings.
There are three criteria when calculating points:
- Place Finished
- Number of Entrants
- Prize Pool
Total points are calculated by multiplying the point factors of the three criteria:
Place finished: first place receives 200 points; second place, 150; third place, 125; fourth place, 100; fifth place, 80; sixth place, 60; seventh place, 50; eighth place, 40; ninth place, 30; if more than 300 entrants: tenth through eighteenth receive 20 points; nineteen through twenty-seven, 10.
Number of Entrants: 2-99 = 1 point; 100-299 = 2 points; 300-499 = 3 points; 500-799 = 4 points; 800-999 = 5 points; 1,000-1,999 = 6 points; 2,000-4,999 = 7 points; 5,000+ = 8 points.
Prize Pool: Cash Tournaments $1-$19 = 1 point; $20-$49 = 2 points; $50-$74 = 3 points; $75-$99 = 4 points; $100-$499 = 5 points; $500-$999 = 6 points; $1,000-$4,999 = 7 points; $5,000-$29,999 = 8 points; $30,000+ = 9 points.
Promotional Tournaments $1-$499 = 1 point; $500-$999 = 2 points; $1,000-$1,999 = 3 points; $2,000-$2,999 = 4 points; $3,000-$4,999 = 5 points; $5,000-$9,999 = 6 points; $10,000+ = 6 points.
As an added bonus, you will also receive 10 SPOY points for each blue token you earn and 30 SPOY points for each red token you earn.
Here is a hypothetical total point calculation example:
Place finished: first place receives 200 points; second place, 150; third place, 125; fourth place, 100; fifth place, 80; sixth place, 60; seventh place, 50; eighth place, 40; ninth place, 30; if more than 300 entrants: tenth through eighteenth receive 20 points; nineteen through twenty-seven, 10.

As an added bonus, you will also receive 10 SPOY points for each blue token you earn and 30 SPOY points for each red token you earn.
Here is a hypothetical total point calculation example:
- You finished third in the $500 Nightly I that had 786 entrants. You receive 125 SPOY points for your third place finish; there are 786 entrants, which is good for 4 points; and the prize pool is $500 cash which is a 6-point event. Thus, you receive 3,000 total SPOY points (125 x 4 x 6).
- You finished first in the $10 PLO that had 79 entrants. You receive 200 SPOY points for your first place finish; there are 79 entrants which is good for 1 point; and the prize pool is $10 cash which is a 1-point event. Thus, you receive 200 total SPOY points (200 x 1 x 1).
- You finished sixth in the Card Player Cruises Caribbean Adventure monthly tournament that had 307 entrants. You receive 60 SPOY points for your sixth place finish; there are 307 entrants which is good for 3 points; and the prize pool is valued at $3,000 which is a 6-point promotional event. Thus, you receive 1,080 total SPOY points (60 x 3 x 6).
